Inside Out: The Stories and Poems from an Autistic Mind - Russell Lehmann

“Having autism is hard. However, having high-functioning autism can sometimes be even harder. For example, when a high-functioning autistic person communicates with a stranger, oftentimes the stranger doesn’t realize the person has a disability; therefore, you are looked upon as odd, scared, and sometimes even stupid. My name is Russell Lehmann. I am twenty years old, and I have high-functioning autism.”

Russell Lehmann was diagnosed with autism when he was 12. His life is riddled with depression, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), severe anxiety and an eating disorder. In Inside Out he shares his unique perception of the world through a series of eye-opening narratives and poetry.

This book sheds light on the challenges that a person with autism and his family have to go through. The stories encompass many significant things that happened to the author while the poems reveal an emotional side to the events that unfold. Lehmann’s work will touch hearts and enlighten readers on what it is like to live with autism.
